  • FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 9 @ 10:30 PM

In just over two short years, the pioneering Brooklyn dhol and brass party juggernaut

Red Baraat have become known as one of the best live bands playing anywhere.

Brooklyn nine-piece party-starters Red Baraat are thus far the most exciting local prospect of this short year, a fiery blend of raucous Indian bhangra and funky New Orleans brass.

Led by dhol player Sunny Jain, the nine piece (comprised of dhol ((double-sided barrel shaped North Indian drum slung over one shoulder)) drumset, percussion, sousaphone, and 5 horns melds the infectious North Indian rhythm Bhangra with a host of sounds, namely funk, go-go, latin, and jazz..

Their debut CD, Chaal Baby is an unstoppable blend of Bollywood hijacks and funk freakier than anything Madlib picked up on his trip to India.

This rare intimate performance will be the band's debut at the Mercury Lounge and promises to go late. INFO: http://www.mercuryloungenyc.com/event/53765

Pandit. Naimpalli is one of the foremost disciples of Pandit Taranath Rao. He began an illustrious performing career while still in his teens. He is a recipient of the President's Award for winning All India Radio Music competition. He is a widely traveled artist and has several accolades, books and CDs to his credit. Susmit Sen, performing solo in NYC!

The founder and guitarist of India’s greatest band, Indian Ocean, is essentially self-taught and has virtually invented a new style of playing guitar.

To give credit to Susmit Sen for the amalgamation of Indian Classical music with Western rock and jazz would be a serious understatement as the sound that emanates from the only folk-rock band in India is beyond categorization. Founder of the four-piece band Indian Ocean, and one of the leading jazz acoustic guitar players in India, Susmit Sen has come a long way from being just another name on the circuit to becoming a highly respected avant-garde musician of our times. Susmit creates an uncanny Indian sound where purity of scale reigns and strong melodic lines are woven around the drone of open strings. “Susmit Sen’s fluid guitar lines recall Jerry Garcia and John McLaughlin at their finest.”  Simon Sweetman, The Dominion Post, New Zealand.
