Babur: Musical Encounters from the Lands of the Mughals".

This concert pairs Homayun Sakhi and his Afghan rubab with sarod player Ken Zuckerman, the leading disciple of the late Ali Akbar Khan, and a consummate master in his own right. Salar Nader, a student of Zakir Hussain.

Acharya Roop Verma.
Acharya Roop Verma is an internationally respected sitarist, composer and teacher of Indian classical and sacred music, meditation and Nada Yoga philosophy. He was formally trained in the oral tradition under highly revered teachers of our time: maestros Ali Akbar Khan and Ravi Shankar, Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati and Swami Shyam of the Himalayas. Roop Verma has performed and taught widely in Europe, North and South America, India and Northern Africa and conducts Nada Yoga intensive retreats internationally. As director of the East-West School of Music, he regularly teaches and performs at Ananda Ashram.
Acharya Roop Verma shares a unique and concise system of musical training. His experience comes from observation of how we learn things. He has simplified the process for this age of technology, where less time is available, by re-arranging essential features and filtering out non-vital elements that are irrelevant to the learning experience.
Topics will include introduction to the Indian musical system of notes, rhythm exercises, simple music-making techniques, study of the science of ragas as a medium of self expression, as well as learning compositions in ragas and improvisation techniques specific to Indian classical music.

Sitarist Gargi Shinde and Lewis Porter on piano.
