Brooklyn Raga Massive "Jam Session" at Branded Saloon!
The American Jazz Jam session has historically been a way for musicians to meet, network, play music together and cultivate community. With the Brooklyn Raga Massive Jam Session, they are attempting to bring that Jazz culture to Raga music.
The Brooklyn Raga Massive Jam is a weekly event, where every Monday's evening, Indian Classical Music can gather for informal performances in the Jazz Jam Session style. Each performance slots for the Raga Jam will be limited to max 20 minutes to encourage a rotating roster of performers.

Using ''Solkattu'', (drum syllables), of South India,
students will learn to vocalize short phrases and ways of counting and combining rhythmic patterns easily within the ''Tala'' (metrical cycles). We will then apply them directly to contemporary music and dance studies. The system being taught is very flexible, and fun to verbalize, and will help the student gain both rhythmic stability as well as a greater awareness of the rich and interesting musical culture of South India. Open to both dancers and musicians.

One of the living legends of the Agra Gharana, Pandit Sudhindra Bhaumik is one of the torch-bearers of Faiyaz Khani style of music. His signature is in his soulful rendition of Nomtom Alaap, Bolbant and intricate Layakari and Taan. His versatility and skills in performing Dhrupad-dhamar, Khayal, Thumri, Tappa, Hori and Bhajans with ease and delicacy sets him apart from his contemporaries.
Pandit Sudhindra Bhaumik was introduced to the world of Classical Music, while he was still in college, by Pandit Biswanath Sur of Kolkata. Later,he came in contact with Late Pandit Ramarao V. Naik, Late Pandit S.C.R. Bhat, Late Pandit K. G. Ginde, Late Pandit Dinkar Kaikani and honed his skills in the Agra Gharana gayaki for over three decades. In addition, he also received personal guidance in Thumri from the renowned Padma Bhushan Late Smt. Shoba Gurtu. A student for life, Panditji continues his study with Pandit Y. M. Sitarist Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury and Narendra Budhakar on Tabla.
Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury is a disciple of the sitar maestro Pandit Subroto Roy-Chowdhury. Indrajit strives to innovate while keeping a firm connection with the past. While completing his undergraduate studies at Duke University, Indrajit received the Bennenson Award for the Arts to further his study of Indian Classical music. Since then he has performed as a full-time sitarist on stages across the world. During the 2010 Fall semester, Indrajit was a visiting faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania.
Naren Budhakar tabla style represents the East West diaspora of Indian classical music. He has accompanied vocal, instrumental and dance music as well as many different genres of world music, including rock, jazz and Celtic. Naren has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Centre, and recently he contributed his music to the Alvin Ailey Dance Company in New York. He was also nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards in 2008.

Nitin Mitta has performed tabla with some of India's most celebrated Hindustani classical musicians and made a mark as a versatile musician in other spheres, he belongs to the Farrukhabad Gharana of Tabla.

Known for his captivating performances and an authentic, Samarth Nagarkar's traditionally rich approach towards raga-exposition and gayaki. He is described by critics as one of today’s foremost torchbearers of Indian classical vocal traditions. After years of rigorous training under Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, he graduated as Grade A scholar of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata in 2009. Prior to this, he trained under Pt. Dinkar Kaikini in Mumbai. By virtue of this intense and extensive talim, Samarth’s performance repertoire encompasses styles, ragas and compositions of three prominent gharanas – Gwalior, Agra and Jaipur. He is a regular feature at several major music festivals and conference both in India and the US.
Kedarnath Hawaldar was born in a musical family (his father is acclaimed vocalist Pt. Nagaraj Hawaldar). He inherited nuances of Indian music and tabla accompaniment at a very young age. Currently he is undergoing rigorous training from Pt. Samir Chatterjee.
