Representing the 20th unbroken generation of dhrupad singers in the esteemed Dagar family, Wasif is the nephew of N. Zahiruddin Dagar and the son of N. Faiyazuddin Dagar, the late legendary Dagar Brothers. Though traditionally his family has always performed dhrupad as a jugalbandi (duet), Wasif successfully presents the dynamic of a duet in a solo performance by maintaining the distinct musical approaches and styles of both his father and uncle. Presented by Asia Society and Indo-American Arts Council.

Tirtha is a phenomenal trio featuring three powerhouse musicians who at once honor and traverse the streams of tradition launching their exciting new album,Tirtha, at the Asia Society. Indian-American pianist-composer Vijay Iyer, Chennai-born guitarist-composer Prasanna, and Hyderabad native and tabla player Nitin Mitta are already highly accomplished artists who shift easily among multiple musical languages. Together, they have achieved a fully realized, deeply thoughtful, and truly innovative collaboration. Combining the elemental directness of rock, the chamber-like intimacy of raga, and bebop's hard, angular drive, Tirtha achieves a profound interplay of melody and rhythm that characterizes the best jazz.

Accompanied by: Akkarai
Subbulakshmi
- Violin

& Parupalli Phalgun - Mridangam

Opening concert: Duet of Japanese Koto by Miya Masaoka  & Akiko Sasaki

Maestro Shashank stormed into the music world at the age of seven.  He was the youngest musician to have been invited by The Music Academy, Chennai to perform the senior most slot of The Music Academy, (often performed by Legends of Indian Classical Music), at the age of 12  - a record yet to be broken in the history of South Indian Music.

Trained by father Subramanyam and vocal maestros R.K. Srikantan and Palghat K.V. Narayanaswami, he is presently considered one of the best Bamboo Flute artists and is hailed so by the Indian and international media alike.

With scintillating, primal tones he truly sings through the most organic and ancient of all instruments. His logic-defying virtuosity is the result of a magical innate talent coupled with the best possible training. Pt. Nayan Ghosh, Sitar with Nitin Mitta on tabla.

Nayan Ghosh is the son of Pandit Nikhil Ghosh from whom Nayan received training for almost 30 years. Nayan is the younger brother of legendary flautist Pannalal Ghosh. Nayan has pursued an unusual two-track career: in addition to being an accomplished sitarist he is also one of today's top-ranking tabla players. His grandfather, Akshaykumar Ghosh, was an erudite sitarist and disciple of the Senia lineage. Nayan has recently been receiving guidance from the esteemed sarod maestro Buddhadev Das Gupta.

Nitin Mitta is one of the prominent young tabla players of his generation. Born in Hyderabad, Nitin first performed solo tabla at the age of ten. He received his early training from Pandit G. Satyanarayana, and later sought the guidance of Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar, one of the most highly respected tabla mentors. Both of Nitin's Gurus are disciples of the late Ustad Amir Hussain Khan Saheb, legendary doyen of the Farukhabad Gharana.

Chhandayan Center for Indian Music presents  a Sitar concert!

Shakir Khan - sitar
Ashis Sengupta - tabla

Shakir Khan is one of the most promising young exponents of the legendary Etawah Gharana, energetically following in the musical footsteps of his prodigious father and guru -- the sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan.  Indeed, Shakir represents the eighth generational link in an unbroken chain of musical talent and tradition poured exclusively into the sitar and surbahar.  A chain that includes, besides Ustadji, the musical legacy of Ustad Aziz Khan (Shakir’s paternal grandfather), and that of the patriarchal surbaharist Ustad Wahid Khan (Shakir’s great grandfather).  He is also a close blood relative of the great Ustad Vilayat Khan. http://meetkalakar.com/in/shakirkhan
