Brooklyn Raga Massive presents "AFRICA MEETS INDIA"...
Africa Meets India - The kalimba music of Ghana, when merged with some of the sweetest ragas of India, creates an intuitive and beautiful musical journey.
Shruti Laya cordially invites you to participate in the Sanskrit Compositions Day
festival on Saturday, Dec.8, 2012. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: NOV. 4.
Shruti Laya has been following a tradition of celebrating a different composer each year. This year, we decided to focus on compositions in Sanskrit, rather than a specific composer. In order to bring out a wide selection of lesser known krithis, and ensure that these are taught to our children, we are restricting this festival to Non Trinity compositions.
All students of music and dance to perform in groups are invited. Performances will be grouped by the teacher, so please contact your teacher and have her or him contact Shruti Laya with details of the participants. Artists and teachers in our area are also invited to participate on their own. In order to defray some of the costs of this program, there will be a Five Dollar participation fee per participant. This is the chance for all our young artists to sing or perform on stage, and show their skills. Due to the expected large turnout, group performances are preferred. Shruti Laya will work with the area music and dance teachers, so please contact your teacher if you want to participate. If you are a music or dance teacher and would like your students to participate (or if you are an artist and would like to participate yourself), please contact us at sanskrit@shrutilaya.org.
In addition to the student groups, Shruti Laya plans to have a grand musical concert or dance performance at the end of the day.

Yogi Charu augmented this formal training through regular studies with Yogi Vijaya in the remote caves high in the Himalayas where he lived the life of a traditional yogi. He is one of the few masters initiated in the 6 traditional Bengali Kriyas as well as in Angk Jotis (Vedic Numerology). In 1994 he was initiated into the Bhrama Madhva Guadiya Sampradaya (lineage) of bhakti-yoga.

FRIDAY DECEMBER 28 - SUNDAY DECEMBER 30
Ananda Ashram presents Acharya Roop Verma A monthly class series offering study of the Sitar in authentic oral tradition under a master teacher and performer. Instruction in other string instruments such as guitar, violin and cello, as well as in voice, is also included. Acharya Roop Verma shares a unique and concise system of musical training. His experience comes from observation of how we learn things. He has simplified the process for this age of technology, where less time is available, by re-arranging essential features and filtering out non-vital elements that are irrelevant to the learning experience. Students will receive an introduction to the Indian musical system of notes and to simple music-making techniques.
